Good Afternoon Blochman Families,
On Monday and Tuesday, June 8th and 9th, as well as Thursday and Friday, June 11th and 12th, from 9:00am to 3:00pm, the school will be open for dropping off books and computers and for picking up your student’s belongings, report cards, yearbooks and spirit wear. You must check in at the Library to receive a ticket from Mrs. Karen before going to the cafeteria to retrieve your belongings.
The school will be open Wednesday, June 10 to graduates only. Kindergarten and 8th grade graduates may drop of and pick up items before or after graduation.
If you do not have all of your library books, text books, computers and chargers turned in you will not be able to retrieve your belongings and report cards. If you played basketball this year, you will also need to turn your uniforms in. If you have any questions about what you need to turn in please call the school office.
We are looking forward to seeing you but please remember that you will need to bring your face coverings with you and also remember to keep 6 feet of distance.
Thank you Bobcats, have a great afternoon!
Good Afternoon Blochman Families,
We are now in our last week of Zoom distance learning. Our last classes will be held this Friday. I want to remind all of you that teachers will be working on report cards and gathering all of your student’s belongings next week June 1st through June 5th. The week of June 8th through the 12th you will be able to pick up report cards, yearbooks, and belongings. All technology, library books, and school materials will need to be turned in at that time. We have truly made the best of our current situation and everyone should be proud of our accomplishments. Here’s hoping next year looks a little more like normal. (5-26-20)
Good Afternoon Blochman Families,
I want to remind you that school is closed this Friday May 22nd and Monday May 25th for Memorial Day. With that said we only have 3 academic Zoom classes left for the year. The end is near and you have all done a great job. As far as next year there are still many unknowns. I will be sure to pass on information as soon as possible. I am hopeful we will have in person classes, in some form, and I am still looking at August 13th for our start date. (5-19-20)
Thank you and stay safe,
Happy Wednesday Blochman Family,
It is time to start talking about our plans for ending the 2019/20 school year. Our last academic Zoom classes will be held on Friday, May 29th. Students will have until Wednesday, June 3rd to submit work for consideration on report cards. During the week of June 1st – 5th teachers will be gathering student’s personal belongings, completing report cards, and inserting yearbook orders into a bag for student pickup. The week of June 8th – June 12th parents will come to school to turn in any technology devices, library books or other school materials. You will then pick up the student's bag with personal belongings and a report card. Bags will be located in the cafeteria alphabetically ordered by grade level. Graduation for both Kindergarten and 8th grade are being planned as we speak. We will give you more details when it becomes available. Starting next week our office hours are expanding to Monday through Friday 9 -2 pm. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask. Let’s finish these last few weeks strong! (5-13-20)
Just a quick reminder today is officially Teacher Appreciation Day. At Blochman we have always celebrated it as Staff Appreciation Day. I want to shout out to our staff and let them know they are the best. I can’t imagine working anywhere else and it is truly because of the people I get to work with every day. I hope our families appreciate them as much as I do. Keep up the good work students and let’s end this year on a strong note. (5-5-20)
Happy Friday Everyone,
I know all of us are continuing to do our best with distance/online learning. This has been a huge learning curve for all of us. Our goal is to do everything we can to support families and most importantly our students during this time. Next week is teacher appreciation week and I know how much I appreciate our outstanding teachers and all of our staff members. Although we will not be able to celebrate next week as usual, I encourage you and your children to reach out and let them know how much they are appreciated and how grateful we are for the commitment they have made to their students. Blochman is a special school and I am so proud to be a part of it. (5-1-20)
Have a great weekend Bobcats!
Good Evening Everyone,
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. We continue to be happy with our Google Classroom participation. Keep a lookout for some fun activities that ASB is coming up with, for our students, to have a little fun during these long days. I want to let 6-8th graders know that if they are choosing to receive letter grades the deadline is this Friday. Please let your child’s homeroom teacher know if that is their choice. I am proud of the teamwork that continues to be displayed between teachers, parents, and students. I truly feel this is going to make us a better school when we get back to whatever normal will be in the future. We did send out intend to enroll forms for the 2020-21 school year. Please return the forms in the self addressed stamped envelope by Friday May 8th to assure your spot for next year. Keep up the good work! (4-28-20)
I hope everyone is doing well. I have a couple of quick announcements. We are offering library hours starting tomorrow. The library will be open from 9am to 1pm every Thursday. Also Google Classroom emails have been enabled for students, this will allow students to communicate with their teachers using the Blochman email addresses. This is the best method to insure a quick response. Keep up the great work and have a great evening. (4-22-20).
Good Evening Everyone,
I wanted to take this time to explain grading and promotion for our third trimester. Traditional school as we know it was suspended on March 13th and now we have introduced distance learning to complete our school year. Due to the fact that everyone’s situation is different and we can’t always count on equal access to the new delivery of curriculum, students will be held harmless from the current situation. What that means is any student who was on a path for promotion to the next grade will be promoted regardless of work completed after March 13th. Does that mean our students should not participate in online classes…..absolutely not! Students will be introduced to new curriculum. This is a very important time to help student’s transition to the next grade with as little negative impact as possible. Please encourage your children to finish the year strong. Also remember if you are feeling overwhelmed with the workload, trust your judgement and do what is manageable. We understand everyone’s situation is different and we have enough stressors in our lives right now. The following is a rundown of how grading will work for the different grade levels.
K-5 will be given a credit/no credit grade for the third trimester. Remember if students were in a position to be promoted prior to March 13th they will be promoted. Every student will have a narrative that describes progress through the first two trimesters and what their participation and completion of work was for the third trimester. Most importantly the narrative will discuss what each individual student needs to focus on for next year. This will give teachers and parents an understanding of their student’s/child’s academic progress.
6th -8th will be the same as K-5, but there is also another option. Students who are interested in receiving a letter grade instead of credit/no credit can make that request to their homeroom teacher. Letter grades and credit/no credit cannot be mixed between subjects, it needs to be one option or the other. The decision to receive letter grades needs to be agreed upon with student and parent. You must let your teacher know you are choosing the letter grade option or grades will default to the credit/ no credit. Students that choose the letter grade format will be judged on quality and completion of work and could include extra assignments assigned by their teachers.
Our grading process will be posted on our website for your convenience.
Keep up the good work everyone! (sent 4-21-20)
Hello Bobcats Parents,
I hope you enjoyed your break, now it is time to get back to business. Looking to enhance our online schedule we have made two changes. Starting tomorrow 6th through 8th grade classes have slightly extended their online class time. Instead of thirty minute classes they will now be 45 minutes. This will allow time between classes to insure all classes start on time and have a short break in between each class. First class still begins at noon. We have also changed the time for our Tuesday/Thursday 5th grade Math Challenge Class. It will now run from 1pm to 2pm due to the high demand. Everything else will remain the same. We will continue to monitor our schedule as needed to insure we are doing everything we can to support our students. Later this week I will be sharing our grading system for the last trimester with all of you. We roughly have 7 weeks left and want to keep all students engaged and making progress. Our teachers have been working tirelessly to learn and improve this new style of teaching. If you or your child have any questions remember teachers are available daily. The surest way to connect is to use our staff emails. They are located on our school web page along with our online schedule and current news. I truly appreciate the effort you have all made to support our students/your children during this challenging time. Let’s continue this partnership and finish the year strong.
Good Evening Blochman Family,
Congratulations to everyone on reaching over 90% participation in our online classes Monday and today. We still have a ways to go, but we are very pleased with the progress we are making. We have had a few technical issues and will continue to improve our program as we move forward. Even though it is just through video, it is so nice to see the smiles on our much missed student’s faces. I hope everyone is staying safe and feeling healthy. Please remember if your child is having difficulties getting into their online classroom call 805 937-1148 ext.119 for help. Also remember teachers are available for anything you need, during non-class time. We are all here to help our students succeed. Friday begins our Easter break and we will resume classes on Monday April 20th.
Happy Easter Everyone!
Happy Friday Bobcats!
Wanted to let everyone know that we are very pleased with our Zoom kickoff. We had well over 80% participation and look forward to improving that number as we move forward. With that said, we knew there would be a few hiccups and we will continue to improve our process. As we move forward I do have one request regarding signing into schedule class times. If you have any problems logging in during the beginning of the class please do not reach out to the teachers directly at that time. Call our school number at (805) 937-1148 ext. 119. This will get you Josh Ruth and he will work with you to login. This way teachers will not be disrupted during their class time and can focus on the students. There is still a lot to learn and we will be making adjustments as needed. Thank you to our students and parents for such a great turnout today. Enjoy your weekend and classes begin Monday. Thank you,
Hello Bobcats, Hoping everyone is well. Our online learning schedule has been posted on our website at www.blochmanusd.org. We are asking students to go to their Google Classroom and sign into the Zoom meeting at their scheduled class, time tomorrow (Friday) for a kickoff meeting. Grades 6th – 8th just login to your first class at 12:00. If you are having any issues logging on and need help you can email your teacher or call the school (805) 937-1148 ext. 119. Let’s work together to ensure our kids have the best rest of the year possible.
Happy Wednesday Everyone,
I want to keep you updated on the latest news. The California Department of Education released a statement yesterday announcing California schools would remain closed the rest of the 2019/20 school year. Please understand this does not mean school is ending for this year. It means distance learning will be our model for continuing this years education. All students will be responsible to continue to do their work and participate in their classroom. It is important that everyone understands this and students who do not complete their work run the risk of being retained for next year. We will be putting our online schedule out tomorrow and it is important for students to follow their schedule. We have options for those families where internet is not available, so that students can still get their educational materials. We will be observing our scheduled Easter break from April 10th through April 19th. Staff will use this time to evaluate our schedule and make any adjustments. This is a new experience for all of us and we need to be stronger than ever in our partnership as teachers/students/parents. Working together we will make the best of this unfortunate situation and do the best we can for our students/children. I appreciate all of your input and patience getting to this point. I am proud of our staff and the effort being made to benefit our students. We care about our kids and our families and will get through this together. Remember to go to our website www.blochmanusd.org to check out the schedule. It will be posted by 2pm tomorrow.
Good Afternoon Everyone, I was hoping to have an online teaching schedule ready to share today, but I need to delay the schedule until Thursday. We are trying to get off to the best start possible and still need time to fine tune the plan as I gather more information. I am sorry for the delay and will be ready to share on Thursday. I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
Happy Monday! I wanted to let you know that I met with staff earlier today and we have developed an online schedule for our live “Zoom” instruction. The schedule will be available tomorrow afternoon on our website. The teachers are planning an opening meeting on Zoom and we would like everyone to connect this Friday. It is important to assure everyone is comfortable accessing the class so that we can have a smooth start on Monday. Please login Friday to your child’s scheduled class meeting time. Teachers are available by email to answer any questions you may have prior to Friday. As we go forward, we encourage all students to engage with the live instruction at the designated time. These lessons will be archived for later viewing if absolutely necessary. We are all looking forward to seeing everyone’s smiling face and interacting with our awesome students!
Happy Friday Blochman Families,
I Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. Teachers have had success reaching out to most of our families and we are assessing our needs going forward for devices and internet service. I will be meeting with our teachers Monday directing them to do some test runs with Google Classroom and Zoom. Be ready for some practice runs starting next week. Hopefully we will have everyone on board with our new delivery of curriculum and we can hit the ground running on April 6th. Remember we do have office hours from 9am to 1pm Monday through Thursday. If you have any questions please give us a call. Enjoy your weekend Bobcats!
As our teachers reach out to you we are compiling a list to make computers available to those of you who are still in need. Computers will be available for pickup this coming Monday and Tuesday from 9am to 1pm. ….. just come on out. We are also going back to office hours starting next week. We will be open Monday – Thursday from 9 am to 1pm with very limited staff. We will continue to keep you informed as quickly as possible. Thank you for working together to support our students and your children. I have had several students share with me some of the cool things they are doing at home. Anything from learning the parts of a car engine to learning how to bake an apple pie. This is a great time to find those little extras to do with your children. Mine personal kids are learning the trade of professional house cleaning.
Thank you and have a great evening.
Good Evening Bobcats,
I wanted to let everyone know that I met with our staff today (teleconference) to talk about online curriculum. We will be using Google Classroom as well as Zoom meetings. We are hoping to start online instruction April 6th. I have directed all teachers to reach out to their families to see if you have internet access and a device. Please look for those phone calls starting tomorrow and Thursday. For those of you that don’t have a device or internet or both we will be reaching out to see if we can assist you in obtaining what you need. Some of you are in areas where this might not be possible and we will have paper packets as well for curriculum. This process will be new to everyone so please be patient as we put our plan into action. Teachers will also be able to assist you with accessing curriculum and how to assist your children. This will especially be a learning curve for our younger students. Together I am confident we can make this work and be successful for whatever time needed. We are committed to do our best and need to work together and support each other, more than ever, for the benefit of our students and your children.
I hope everyone is doing well. Starting tomorrow our office hours will be 8am to 1pm Monday thru Friday. Believe it or not I already miss your kids….well most of them, but on a serious note curriculum is ready to pick up. Thank you to our entire staff for working together to make this happen so quickly. Phone calls were made today to ask preference of the most convenient pick up point. If we were unable to get ahold of you your pick up point will be Blochman. For those of you that chose Trivium 1550 S. College you must pick the packets up this Thursday from 9am to 3:30 and if you chose Family Partnership 1157 E. Clark packets are available this Wednesday and Thursday only from 10am to 1:30pm. If you do not pick them up during that time your packets will go back to Blochman for pickup. Please remember to email teachers with any questions you might have. That is it for now I will be sending out a new one call tomorrow.
Thank you and be safe!
Hi Blochman Families,
